Convened by UN General Assembly Resolutions 78/261 and 78/318, WSSD2 will mark the 30th anniversary of the 1995 Copenhagen Summit, with a renewed focus on poverty eradication, full employment and decent work, and social inclusion—centered on “leaving no one behind.”

Highlights include:

High-level plenary sessions and roundtables, with Heads of State and Government negotiating and adopting a Political Declaration by consensus.

A process of “Food for Thought” and zero draft circulation in early 2025, followed by consultations (March–June) and formal negotiations ahead of the summit.

The Summit complements the global sustainability agenda by reaffirming the Copenhagen Commitments and accelerating implementation of the SDGs across all sectors.

Organizer

United Nations General Assembly, through UN DESA and ECOSOC, Government of Qatar, Belgium’s and Morocco’s Permanent Representatives

Focus

To recommit and revitalize global efforts toward social development, particularly in eradicating poverty, ensuring decent employment, and promoting social inclusion and equity. The Summit seeks to identify implementation gaps since 1995, align strategies with the current global context—including digital transformation, demographic shifts, climate change, and inequalities—and produce an actionable blueprint through a consensus Political Declaration.
