The 80th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 80) opens on Tuesday, 9 September 2025, with the high-level General Debate beginning on 23 September. Under the theme "Unity in Diversity," UNGA 80 will highlight the need for global cooperation to address shared challenges. Key priorities include advancing climate action, closing digital divides, redefining economic progress beyond GDP, and upholding human rights. Central to this session is the Pact for the Future—a roadmap to strengthen multilateralism and accelerate progress on sustainable development and global financing.
Aligned with UNGA High-Level Week, Global Goals Week 2025 will run from 19 to 28 September. This annual initiative brings together over 160 partners across civil society, business, academia, and the UN system to drive momentum for the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through events, summits, forums, and campaigns in New York and online, the week promotes action, awareness, and accountability toward a more inclusive and sustainable future.
The alignment of Global Goals Week with UNGA High-Level Week creates a powerful synergy. While UNGA provides a global platform for nations to declare policy commitments, Global Goals Week mobilizes society at large to translate those commitments into real-world impact. Initiatives such as the World Economic Forum’s Sustainable Development Impact Meetings enhance this connection by convening leaders to advance practical solutions for climate, equity, and innovation. Together, these efforts help transform high-level vision into meaningful progress toward the 2030 Agenda.
