AfriSAFE 2026 has received more than 13,000 individual and corporate nominations.

A Ghana training initiative targets at least 1,000 people as part of a broader ambition to equip over 10,000 people across selected African countries with lifesaving skills.

Zambia Sugar, Seplat Energy and Tropical Cable are among the businesses backing AfriSAFE 2026 as policymakers, regulators and health, safety and environment professionals prepare to gather in Accra, Ghana, on November 5 – 6, 2026.

Africa Safety Congress Champions Workplace Protection

The Africa Safety Congress & Awards, scheduled for the Labadi Beach Hotel, will address workplace protection, business continuity and emerging safety risks under the theme “Safeguarding Lives. Securing the Future.”

Alongside professional discussions and awards, the programme includes practical first-aid and emergency-response training.

Organisers aim to connect corporate safety leadership with community preparedness, extending the gathering’s focus beyond recognition to the everyday protection of lives.

Corporate backing connects safety with business resilience

Other organisations supporting the event include Golden Africa Djibouti, GODEF West Africa, Unique Open University, Brit Holdings, OSHEMS Group, Hybrid Group, iSafety Group, and Safety Consultants and Solutions Providers.

The two-day summit will bring together delegates from across Africa and the diaspora to discuss workplace and technical safety, environmental, social and governance (ESG) criteria, artificial intelligence, organisational resilience and responsible business practices.

Its programme combines the Africa Safety Congress, AfriSAFE Awards, an international exhibition, career empowerment sessions and high-level networking.

  • These activities will enable participants to exchange experience, examine emerging risks and strengthen professional connections across sectors.

Placing safety alongside ESG and business continuity links worker and community wellbeing to how organisations manage disruption and sustain operations.

  • It also positions occupational protection within the wider discussion about responsible and sustainable enterprise.

Extending lifesaving skills into Ghanaian communities

A central component of AfriSAFE 2026 is free, practical first-aid and emergency-response training for at least 1,000 individuals in Ghana.

The Ghana initiative forms part of a broader ambition to equip more than 10,000 people across selected African countries with lifesaving competencies.

  • The local target is therefore one component of the wider continental programme.

Femi Da-Silva, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of AfriSAFE, said the initiative reflects the need to extend safety culture beyond corporate settings.

“We can hold powerful conversations about safety inside conference halls, but the ultimate measure of success is what changes for the individual on the street.

  • If 1,000 people leave our sessions with practical skills to save a colleague, family member, or stranger, we have created an impact that far outlasts the event.”

The training is intended to give participants skills they can apply in workplaces, households and everyday situations.

  • It connects the congress’s professional agenda with practical preparedness for emergencies affecting colleagues, families and communities.

Thousands of nominations shape continental awards shortlist

Organisers say the AfriSAFE 2026 Awards received more than 8,000 individual entries across Africa’s five sub-regions, with fewer than 70 nominees progressing to the final shortlist.

  • Over 20 organisations were also selected from more than 5,000 corporate nominations.

The Nigeria and West Africa shortlist includes;

  • Dangote Packaging Limited, Ardova Plc, UBA Group, Lagos Free Zone Company, Olam Agric, Akwa Ibom State Government, Sunbeth Global Concepts, Promasidor, GB Foods Ghana, Ibom Air, Matrix Energy, ARISE IIP, Zoomlion, Craneburg Construction and Segilola Resources Operating Limited.

Pan-African and international shortlisted organisations include;

  • Nestlé ESAR Region, Fujita Corporation, Hormuud Telecom Somalia, Shelter Group Africa, Vulcan Mozambique, KEC International, TATA Chemicals Magadi Kenya, Kagem Mining, Bakhresa Group, Zambeef Products Plc, Puma Energy, Trade Kings Group, Equity Group Holdings, FG Gold, AngloGold Ashanti and MODEC.

Partnerships bring professional expertise into the programme

AfriSAFE 2026 is being delivered in strategic partnership with the Ghana Institute of Safety and Environmental Professionals and the Ghana Electrical Contractors’ Association.

Other endorsements include;

  • Ghana’s Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations, Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, and the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health, alongside other international bodies.

Activities will begin on November 4 with the all-white welcome reception, “Akwaaba! The Ghanaian Night Experience,” ahead of the main congress.

  • The programme will conclude with the AfriSAFE Awards and Cultural Night.

Following previous editions in Nigeria, Zambia and Kenya, the Accra gathering will continue AfriSAFE’s work to advance occupational safety, sustainability and human capital protection across Africa.

Path Forward – From Accra discussions to practical safety action

AfriSAFE 2026’s stated priorities are to strengthen workplace protection, support business resilience and extend emergency preparedness into communities.

The congress and Ghana training initiative provide complementary routes towards these objectives.

For participating organisations and professionals, the next step is to translate shared knowledge into practical safety measures that protect people, support operational continuity and improve emergency readiness.
